94 4runner 4x4 shifting problem
I have a 94 4runner 4x4 V6 with a AT and its having a couple of different problems. First off when I drop it into 4 wheel drive the one wheel locks up and wont turn. When its in 2 wheel drive the front wheels don't spin freely and have a bit of resistant. Which i assume is causing the 9-10 mpg that I am getting. Just the other day it was having trouble shifting from 2nd to 3rd. I dropped into 4H and then back into 2 wheel drive and it started shifting again, but now i am having trouble with it shifting from 4th to 5th gear. Are all of these items related. I was told there is an actuator on the front end that I can replace for the 2 wheel drive problem and check the vacuum line to the actuator.

ok... 1st, the auto only has 4 gears, so thats why you cant get the shift from 4th to 5th. what you may consider as 5th gear is actually the torque converter locking up in 4th. if the torque converter isnt locking up, then your gas mileage will definately drop. second, when you put it in 4wd, which wheel locks up? third, how much resistance is on the front tires when you try and turn them? are the brakes grabbing (check the front hubs for excessive heat after driving)?

curently it wont shift out of 2nd and it feels like the 4 wheel drive is active. Down shifts fine but wont go from 2nd to third. . The back passenger wheel does not turn when in 4wheel drive. Checked the brakes and they are working. When it was shifting up to 4th gear I couldn't go faster then 60mph because of the RPM where getting to high.

Have you checked the fluid to see if it's burned or low?
When you say the passenger rear wheel will not turn when it's in 4x4 do you mean that if you try to drive it that tire just drags along with out rotating?
This is a strange set of problems right here
