94 3.0 v6 starting issues

I have a 94 3.0 pickup that won't crank. I have had the issue of it not turning over since I bought the truck but it would always end up starting. That is no longer the case. I have replaced the starter, battery and terminals are all good. However the truck will start when it is jumped. Wondering if it is the ignition switch? If you have any feedback I would appreciate it.

Have you replaced the spark plugs w/wires, cap & rotor, distributor? When you jump it, is the car in gear or in park or neutral?

A problem well-stated is a problem half-solved.
Please clarify.
I does not crank (starter turns and turns the engine)?
It cranks but no combustion (when you hear the VROOM)?

He mentioned when the starter is jumped (bypassing the car's starter circuit) the car does crank and start.

Starter switch? Possible, check the solenoid first. Also, check the FSM for how to test the starter switch.

My guess would be to install a Painless Hot Shot. Has cured many a 3VZE starting problems. Can be had rather cheaply from www.summitracing.com

O.P., find the FSM or schematic.

Not so fast. If truck has a starter relay that is properly wired, hotshot is not needed.

That's why O.P. should look at schematic AND verify if hot shot would help, with this
If cranking issue is intermittent, and above consistently cranks it, chances are:
1) Starter relay does not exist and neutral safety switch is going bad,
2) Starter relay is not wired properly, OR
2) Starter relay contacts are going bad.

LOL! and he did not even state whether truck is auto or manual tranny. It makes a whole lott difference on the 1st gen 4Ruenners, but I don't know with the 3rd gen trucks.

That's why I keep on stressing describe the problem and circumstances in great detail because only O.P. can hear, see, smell, feel things in front of him. I could not, because I could be here
