Thumbs down 93 v6 runner knock sensor

my 93 has the 3vze..250k mi... my check eng light(code 52) has been on for a few k.. hopefully im not destroying my motor, but untill some of this snow melts(4ft+) i cant get it into my garage, it is the only veh i own that can make it to the main road.. my question is.. i have heard that u can bolt a new knock sensor and pigtail wires to the side of the block, and it will still work(if grounded) does any1 know if this is true? i would much rather do that than spend a few days digging out the garage, at least untill the snow melts...then i do it right
