93 v6 pickup sucks gas

hey there. ever since i bought my pickup, i've noticed i don't get good gas mileage. i only get 12.5 mpg around town, shifting at 2000 or 2500 rpm with 31's and 4.56's. i first thought was that the o2 sensor was shot so i smelled the exhaust while the truck was running and it had no smell just felt hot air like it was running lean or something. i also changed the plugs a few weeks ago. is there anything else that i can check out to see why i get bad mileage. with my old truck, 96 ram with 5.9 got about 11.4 mpg in town, flooring it everywhere with a super rich smelling exhaust. i just think its sad that a small v6 gets the mileage of a full size truck and has twice as less hp and torque. but i'd rather drive this yota over a older ram any day.

3.0

4cyl power with v8 gas mileage.

Fuel filter? Proper air in tires? cap and rotor? air filter?

I say give it a good tune up and then go from there.

the air filter is good, i should get on that thanks. the 3.0 in my truck isn't even slow at all. i can pass people easily on the hwy and the truck has enough power to up hills in 4th around town. it just seems to lack torque going up steep hills from a stop.

I would say get used to it ...
Try revving it higher than 2500?
as said before, v6 with v6 power and v8 mpg

As the 22re has 4cyl power and v6 mpg... We have to pay for great reliability somehow
