93 pickup o2 sensor burned due to muffler
I have a 1993 Toyota pickup 2.5L DLX reg cab 4x4. Recently replaced the clutch and the wiring that comes from the O2 sensor laid on the muffler and is now burnt. Unfortunately the wires that are burnt are above the plug for the sensor so replacing the sensor wire would not help. The wires that are burnt are still together but copper is showing, there are four wires. One looks like it's braided. Since finding this out the truck will not start. It will crank over but not run. How do I fix the wiring for this sensor area? I have looked at all the wire from sensor to front of truck. Looks like one whole piece. Any ideas? Please text or call with info please 540-451-1662

this is mostly conjecture
4 wire to me indicates that this is a heated 02 sensor
two wire for the signal and two for the heater
The signal "positive" is the one shielded.
I don't have the wiring diagram to see where the shielding is "tied"
Given that the shield is just to "block" stray RFI from impacting the Voltage on the signal wire, a single ended ground should be fine.
I do Pro Audio, so I have plenty of shielded mic cable around; the NICER stuff usually has a braided shield.
Just be sure to tie at least ONE end of that shield to ground.
I think a decent stranded 18gauge wire would work for the three other wires.
Splice in a repair section.
If you are splicing it in (solder! not crimp connectors!) cover the whole thing in a section of shrink wrap and you should be good to go....

Could that cause the truck from not starting? I was driving along and it just lost power. Tried to start it but it acted like it was dead. Put another battery in it and still nothing. That's when I discovered the wires. Could those wires make the truck just cut off and not run?
