OK, only took me about a hour to remove the 3rd from the 85 axle. Too much to do today, but it should be done tomorrow!

Next problem is to get it to pass smog. Kept failing with a "no vacuum to EGR" code. That was last year so they hadnt started to NOX testing yet. Yay.

LOL, Ok. Not gonna do it.

Better question.
Can I reinstall the axles WITHOUT the 3rd member, reatach the wheels, and lower it back down? I need to take it off the jacks tonight.

well, technically speacking you can, only problem is you have to jack the truck back up and pull them back out again to get the 3rd back in...

the 3rd will not go in or out unless the axles are out; the axle's kinda sorta engage and hold the 3rd in, in a kinda-sorta way...

yeah, you can. just don't move it.
the 3rd balances the torque placed on the outer bearings.

Yea, its not gonna go anywhere. Were having a home inspection to get foster kids on Friday, and apparently a vehicle on jacks is a safty hazard...

?

ask the instpector "would you rather it just be on a jack and no stands?"

geez... jack stands (if properly placed and used) are just as safe, it not safer, as the vehicle sittin on it's tires...
