93 4Runner still not shifting after solenoids replaced.

Hey everyone, new to the forum and new to Toyotas. I recently purchased a 93 Toyota 4Runner v6. I knew it didn't shift from 3 to 4 when I purchased it, and after some research I assumed it was the solenoids needing replacement. I swapped out all three and it still won't shift. There is a cable going into the transmission on the driver side with a bracket that seems to be broken (it was leaking fluid after the swap) could that have something to do with it? I'll try to take a picture. Thanks!

Make sure u only put back 4.5 qt in trans. After solenoid replaced. Don't fill your trans. Back all the way up try that.

Troll? I'm just looking for legitimate answers, if .5 quarts will fixing a shifting issue I'm all for it. I just find that hard to believe. Can you explain? Everything else I read said 5 quarts.

have you tested your tps? thatcan cause shifting issues, also what condition is the OD button on the shifter?

ive overfilled my a340h which is what you have by a quart or two to avoid all the fluid going into the transfer case when driving up a steep hill. same with my trans now A340E with inchworm adapter and gear case. ive got a bad output seal and my atf will make its waay back there on a long climb. never got stuck in direct without shifting in to overdrive

they say 5 quarts on a drain and fill, sometimes you get a little more sometimes a little less. with the engine running in neutral pull the trans dipstick and take a peek at the oil level and get back to us

The transmission will give you 4th gear when the lever is in D even if both solenoids have failed. If all gears work correctly except 4th, it cannot be the solenoids. Everyone likes to blame the solenoids when they have transmission problems, not sure why.

You need to do a manual shifting test to determine if the problem is electric/electronic or mechanical. Unhook the electrical connector to the transmission. Start with the transmission in L and accelerate as you shift to 2 and then D. You should get the following gears with the connector disconnected and manually shifting...

L=1st
2=3rd
D=4th

If you can get it to shift to 4th using the manual shifting test, the problem is likely in an electrical or electronic circuit. If is does not, the problem is a mechanical problem in the transmission.
