93 4runner solenoid and check engine code

Hey!

My mom's 4runner started having problems, I decided to diagnose it with the paperclip method. Well, I did and it came out with code #62 and #63 in the O/D light. And check engine code #12.

I understood the O/D code, being the two shift solenoids but the check engine #12 code I have no idea.

Can someone tell me what solenoids should I buy? Direct Link if possible please.

And what's the meaning of Check engine code 12?

It's a 1993 4x4 V6 automatic 4runner.

Sorry if it's hard to understand, i'm not very fluent in English and I'm a total noob in mechanics on top of it. So any help is apreciated

Thanks in advance.

That's not the way it works; your 4runner is not a Lego set. The code tells you "Severed No. 1 solenoid or short circuit–
severed wire harness or short circuit
Severed No.2 solenoid or short circuit–
severed wire harness or short circuit." It might be a bad solenoid (which you could replace), or it could be a broken wire. The code doesn't tell you which.

The solenoid is part no. 85420-30120. Cost well north of $220 each at the dealer. Do you want to buy two of them just on guess-or-by-golly? They're also available at RockAuto (about $100-$300 each) and after market ones show up on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/230357832802?lpid=82&chn=ps You pay your money and you take your chances.

Well, you're not a TOTAL noob; you correctly figured out how to read codes. Which is more than a lot of folks on this site. But do you really want to track down an Automatic Transmission problem? Everyone has to start somewhere.

Mmmm... What do you recommend? Is it easy to check for broken wires?

Can you explain that?

The problem here is that, apparently, the mechanics here suck at fixing 4runners. Maybe if I go with the right info, they can do the physical job.
