93' 22re a/c conversion???

I live in Arizona and it's hotter than hell right now. The truck was converted to "freeze 12" when I bought it. My question is....will R134 blow colder than the freeze12? And if so what is involved in converting my system over to r134?? From what I've heard, it's just a few fittings that basically screw on.The a/c works fine till the outside temp gets higher than 110*, I'll probably be the only fool that has this prob in this forum, any advice on this issue would be awesome! THX!

I'm by no means an expert on a/c but I've been doing a lot of reading about a/c lately because I want to get mine going.

Freeze12 I hear will actually blow colder than 134a if yours was converted over and no other parts were changed. The drawbacks are that it is more flammable and no a/c shops will touch your system if freeze12 is in it because it contaminates their equipment.

I've also heard this. They said regular R12 is basically gone. Most shops wont touch either r12 or freeze12, but there's one shop near me that'll do anything. They're the one's that charged my system last year. Crapy mainstream places don't wanna help out the common man.

Try going to a place that specializes in auto AC work. General auto repair shops generally won't work with the old R12. But I've found that most AC shops are equipped to deal with both systems.

with temps at 110, I'm not sure anything will help you.. i know 12 is cooler than 134.. i really wish i hadn't converted mine .. i can get 12.. i have a hook... Mine does pretty good with 134 until the temp gets above 95, my truck is red too and that makes it hotter.. when its 98 or 99 mine barely keeps you from sweating.. at 90 or 92 it blow ice cubes.. i know i was no help but i like to rant

the downside to a converted system is that the condensor(radiator lookin thing behind the grill) isnt really the proper size to cool 134a. so, that right there should tell you the biggest complaint people have with a converted system. they tend to suck when there is minimal air moving across the condensor. so, at an idle, or in traffic its not the most efficient system. moving down the highway normally yields at least a 10 degree temp difference. i've done a ton of conversions, mostly on class 8 trucks. like everything else, there is a right way and an easy way to do a conversion. i think in your case, with temps over 100 i would think you would want to do it the right way. replace the filter drier, orfice tube/expansion valve, drain the oil out of the comp, flush the lines, replace with new oil, vacuum and charge. i have never been real keen on the blends like freeze12 or the others. for that matter i have never been too keen on the kit you can by from wal-mart that magically converts your system to 134a. i'm not saying that it doesnt work, but all the time i hear, "it cools ok, but not great".
my truck blows 37 degrees at the vent. mine was converted the right way

R12 systems work best with R12!

Repeat after me: R12 systems work best with R12!

R12 is widely available! If you're close to the border, get your a/c serviced in Mexico. Craiglist and eBay have numerous sellers of R12, expect to pay $20-$30/can. Three cans is more than enough to charge an empty system.

You'll want to pull a vacuum before charging the system. This removes air/moisture and tests whether there are leaks. Vacuum pumps can be rented, or a shop should do it for about $30.

Thx for all of the help guys. I just bought one of those conversion kits from autozone, but after doing some reading, i'll just take it back and go to that shop and have em throw some more freeze 12 back in it.
