Nice one.

Yeah about $40 or $50 total............but with a projected $200 or so (new timing cover / chain / ete etc etc) it's turning into a putz.

That, combined with no lack of places that NEED $$$ thrown at them and this projcet is stalled and starving. That's why i'm talking about stuff I can do now like cleaning the valves up......honestly I can buy SOME parts now, but not ALL of them and I plan on buying ALL of them at once so , if for no other reason, I only pay shipping once because ENGNBLDR combines shipping.

Not to discourage you, but you are not that far (money-wise) into your project.

So here is an awesome upgrade for you

Went to AUTOZONE.

Bought Brakleen cleaner. Bought a headlight bulb for the wife's 4runner too. Saw that valve tool $6.99. Also saw the spark plug tap, I think $6.99 also. Did NOT find the valve compound stuff, probabaly will just order that stuff.

Advanced Auto had it with the other stuff from Permatex. I think it was like $3.00 or something like that.

Sure....I'd watch how much I put on the pistons though. Just me. I don't think you want too much leaking down past the rings. But that's just me being me.

OK....did some cleaning ith the brake cleaner stuff......

I'll say a few things......

#1......don't get that stuff in your eye......after the initial 5 minutes of intense burning, it only is a little swollen........yeah, usually I'm smarter than that but I din't expect it to spray right back at me but, yeah, a little ricochet shot to the eyball.

#2......yeah, should use that stuff outside, not in a basement. Was going to have my oldest son help me, but after I read the vapor warnings and inhaled quite a bit myself I told him to stay put. He has asthma and I didn't want to make a problem.

#3.......exhaust valves are really crapped up........intake ones are cleaning up really easily but not the exhaust ones.

#4........that stuff cuts through grime REALLY NICE!!!! I need a pressure washer loaded with it.

pics to follow...................

in Autozone that valve compound is usually in the same isle with the rtv, anti-sieze etc. Or you can ask your friendly store manager where the stuff is located. I had to do that when I pick up my plastigauge from there.

Raised $1000 bucks so far in 3 weekends so off to a good start
