92 4x4 V6 Parking break doesn't grab
I’d like to introduce myself as Toyota noob/boob =) I’ve been into honda’s for years, I know them inside and out. Now the time has come to change that part of my life and get a Toyoda and be a man. I found this really nice 1992 Pickup 4x4 v6 144k miles. The ugly is that the power steering pump is leaking pretty bad, I might be able to poor in a bottle of stop leak for the time being. Until I get the chance to swap it out with the new unit. My major question is the parking break doesn’t seem to work at all. I’m wondering what could possibly be wrong with it. You guys think the cable has stretched way to long, snapped, or possibly got disconnected. Or just needs to be adjusted. Also the way I hear you adjust it in the rear is with in the drums in the back.

I would have a friend watch the junction under the truck, to see if the cable is moving, and retracting properly. In reality, there are two cable assemblies. It makes it a little easier to replace/trace the problem.
The rear portion in the actual brakes is self adjusting, so you won't want to mess with that. There is an adjust at the junction in front of the fuel tank, but again check to make sure your cables are functioning properly before attempting to adjust the system.

more than likely, the rear brakes need inspecting/replacing/adjusting. checking the pivot points along the cable(s) is a good idea as well. save the money you would spend on the stop leak, check out the p/s first to determine your course of action. buy a rebuild kit for the p/s pump if thats all it needs.

Found the issue with the e-brake cable. the damn cable broke. so i take it i need to order the following part.
http://www.autozone.com/R,337827/veh...ductDetail.htm
(Front e-brake cable)
now i've been checking the online service manuals, and i don't find anything about replacement of the e-brake cables. i'm currently searching the forums now for some help.
Thanks BTW guys. This board kicks major ass. I've gone from being a kid and f'ing with honda's, to being a man and getting a Yoda! i love it. Now it's a brand new learning curve.
