92 22re tmiming issues

i have a 92 4 runner...with 22-re...

with my distributor turned all the way clock wise ,im about 8-10 deg. BTDC....

.i spun the dist. one tooth and that put me right on TDC...but now the distributor is all the way counter clock wise now....that is just backwards from the start point......

i cant seem to get this right... also from front to back what are the cylinder #'s..?..... 3-2-4-1...?????? thanks for your help

could it be that i just need to clock the pulg wires....it ran find untill a friend and i put in the brand new dist. ..

This is what I do: Pull #1 plug and turn engine over manually and stick your finger over #1 spark plug hole and wait for the compression stroke. When on compression stroke you should feel the pressure try to go past your finger. Get it to TDC in #1. The distributer rotor should be facing at #1 which is about 10:00 (if you compare it to a wall clock). If it is not pull the dist out and find the right tooth to make the rotor face #1. Have a buddy crank it and move the dist clockwise and counter clockwise slowly until it starts and then you can put a timing light on it and set it. The cyl. # from front to back are 1-2-3-4. The firing order is 1-3-4-2. The cap should tell you where 1-2-3-4 are.
