90 toyota pickup 3.0 hesitating?

After my dad and ï replaced the water pump on my yota it started hesitating under accelerating. Unfortunately with limited money we couldn't replace the timing belt. When ï get to about 2000 rpm it starts jerking and hesitating. What could it be?

your timing may have skipped. check the tensioner for the timing belt right next to the water pump as it might have gotten loose and is not providing the force you need on the timing causing it to have issues... just a thought...

If this is the issue its a easy fix as you just have to take the cover off from the front of the cam gears and you should be able to access the tensioner.
