I may be wrong, but I don't think first generations came with rear sway bars. I think they started using rear sway bars when they started using rear coils in 1990. They're a lot worse about body roll than leaves. The leaf springs when they were new that is. Butt sag leafs suck around corners.
I appreciate the help since I'm always in a budget state of mind as well. And I do agree that flat springs are terrible. My truck rode like a demented brick before I added the coils and the 4runner right now makes me think it's going to roll over if I take a turn quickly.

Thanks again.

He's asking about a REAR sway bar on 1st gens.
Try reading it again

Man, either that pic makes that climb look really weak, or my 2wd is actually somewhat capable, because I swear I could make that without any problems. lol

No lockers = no juevos

No, 1st gen runners do not have a rear sway bar.

I have had the 3" downey springs in my 4Runner for about 2 years and they are still fine, just make sure you transfer the thick overload leaf to the new spring pack when you are putting the downeys into your 4unner

Nice runner junkers. I just installed a locker in my 4runner and it definitely gets rid of those annoying times when something looks easy but it's just rutted and slippery enough to spin a front and rear tire.

Nice 4runner too Fred. Where were you wheeling in those pictures?

Those pictures don't do that little climb justice. I'll have to take the truck out this weekend and get a couple of shots from the top. It wouldn't be so bad if the terrain was more like the pictures that FredTJ posted up. Where he's driving on what appears to be pretty dry and stable rock the crap I was trying to drive up is all gravel and little pieces of busted flat rock covered in dirt and mud. All it takes is one tire to spin with open diffs and you're done. I took a buddy of mine out here a week or so ago and his Rubicon had some issues on this climb. I must say it is pretty cool to see a Jeep spinning all 4 tires.

oh, I forgot to say nice rig Junkers. And if you are thinking about the locker, don't look back, just get one haha.

I love my locked 4Runner, it goes a lot further than my truck did with its open diffs.

That's Wild Burrow Canyon in the Tortolita Mountains.
This is a great little run. A nice 1/2 trip that's close in.
The trail is anywhere from the photos that I posted, to wilder, to pretty much undoable.
