89 later plenum swap to 88 22re problem

I did the swap before on other trucks but on this one with no air and water leaks.The idle is reving to high even when slightly warm and when it hits a certain temperature it idles correctly.I know its the AAV below the throttle body controls the cold high idle circuit but what Ive read on the search that some guys tape up the inside on the left bottom hole with tape to cut off the high idle start. I want to know from others if this is a good fix or not and Im doing this because I dont have any extra throttle bore to swap with.

I personally wouldn`t put any tape inside of the throttle body. Should it come lose and get sucked into the engine it could cause problems.

Remove the idle air control valve and take it a part, clean it out and make sure the litle spring inside of it hasn`t come loose, and give it another try.

When you did this swap before did you notice and performance gains, more power or anything like that ?. I have an upper plenum from a 91-92 22RE that I plan to swap onto an all stock 86 4Runner I will be getting soon.

How high is too high an idle? It's working and returns to correct idle like it should. It's hard to tell how high my idle is in the morning when I start because my tach doesn't work till everything is all warmed up. But it sounds higher than it did before the swap. Mainly because it wasn't working at all. As far as horsepower gains myyota, I don't know if I feel any but I feel throttle response big time. That alone and having a reliable AAV was well worth it plus it freed up some space under the intake. Now all I need is a new exhaust and passenger side snorkel.

I use the truck daily and drive short routes and the idle acts up as if its very cold but its not.The idle goes up to 1200 rpm when cold but its set at 750-850 rpm when normal.The high idle is burning up a lot of fuel.Everything else starts and runs fine on the acceleration with just the clear but thick 3M tape.Ill later make a block plate on the bottom if I cant get a replacement idle air control valve.

... what did you do to the plug that went to the IAV for the 88?

I left it unplug and doesnt effect the swap

I wouldn't think it would. The plug is for the electric heater from the earlier IAV and has no connection to AAV.

But, you didn't answer the question I first proposed:
"The way the factory designed it is wrong?"

There were situations where the IAV would warm up too fast because it was externally heated and adversely affect the engine.
