89-95 downpipe on an '88?
I'm trying to put my exhaust back together on my '88 v6 4runner in a stock configuration and had planned on replacing my downpipe as well. That way it would all be bolt-on stuff and easy to do at home. But the salvage yard didn't have a complete downpipe from flange to flange. I found a Bosal part number (840-109) but it is no longer available. They also have a part number for the later 3rd gen trucks and 2nd gen 4runners that is still available (790-233). The later one measures 46" versus the earlier one at 43". I know that the bends could make a huge difference. Has anyone had experience with this? Is it something that will work or is there enough of a difference to cause fit/clearance issues? The manifolds and the converter are to same on both.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Patrick

Let's see if three times the charm, or three strikes and out:
I've been thinking about going ahead and ordering the down pipe for the 2nd gen 4Runner to test fit it. My logic here is that it would be easier to take the pipe to an exhaust shop to have it shortened than it would be to have my old pipe repaired (adding a flange and lengthening it).
I have posted pics of the two pipes and they do look very similar, but I know visuals are not a good measure of fit at all. But correct me if I'm wrong, but the exhaust manifold for the 3VZE has the same flange throughout. And the catalytic converter is the same between the two generations. So what should stop me from ordering this? What is different enough in such a way to prevent this from working at all?
Surely someone here is familiar enough with both the first gen and second gen 4Runners to know the differences. I've only had two 4Runners, and both of them 1st gens.
Thanks in advance!
Here are the two pipes:
