89-95 door rattle
this may work for 84-95 as well but I only did it on my runner.
My door has been rattling for about 4 years and it never really bothered me. Truck has a glass pack and it’s chopped and dumped right below the back seat so noises don’t bother me much. Plus for years of off-road abuse lots of noises are prevalent.
But the door started getting to me the day after I hit a set of whoops that my buddy made in his yard that I’m sure were designed to only destroy trucks.
After that set of demon whoops my door began making a pop sound every time I would hit the brake. I found this out after checking brake pads, wheel bearings, CV axels, engine/trans mount, arm mounts, cross members, and ball joints.
I noticed when I came to a stop if I had my elbow on the door it wouldn’t pop, so I decided to start looking for a set of replacement pins. Can’t find em. You can buy whole hinges with pins installed, but why waste the money?
so I chopped the pin with a dremel and a carbide bit and started measuring.
Since I couldn’t find any metric bolts with very long shanks, I went to SAE. found 5/16 bolts that had a long shank and went to 1/4”x20 threads on the tip
the shank needs to be 2” long.
The brass bushings were the hard part. I couldn’t find them with 5/16” ID / 3/8” OD. So I found some that were 1/4”ID / 3/8”OD and drilled them out.
If you do this I highly reccomend a drill press that has the ability to spin very slow. These are sintered bronze and will break apart if you take big bites.
Once they were drilled out it was a quick swap and tighten and bye bye rattly door!
