'89 4runner Trans Swap: Wiring?

My '89 V6 4runner has an automatic transmission. I have a '88 V6 4runner donor with a 5 speed. I want to swap the 5 speed into the '89. I'd like to have working backup lights, the 4wd indicator and the clutch switch. I'd also like to use the "full gauge" instrument cluster from the '88. To do this right is it going to require a a complete body wiring harness (and maybe an engine harness) and matching engine computer from a manual transmission equipped 4runner? Or can I graft what wires I need from the '88 harness and keep the existing computer?

I've done one of these before where I just swapped the transmission parts and left the wiring alone and I'd be glad to do that initially in this case as well, but eventually I'd like to get it like it came from the factory.

Also I suspect the '88 engine harness and computer are different from the '89 as is evident by the 5hp increase in '89.

'88 4runner: Different ECU's for Manual or Automatic?

Just wondering if anybody knows if manual transmission and automatic 4runners have different ECU's in the '89 model year (different depending on type of transmission)? Or same ECU for both? I want to know if I can plug a body wiring harness from a manual truck into and automatic ECU (and have it work). -- Matt

I'm fairly sure you can't. The ECU controls the auto tranny, so the wiring is all different.

so im not sure what the differences are in the 89 v6 and a 91 v6 wiring but i wanted the same as you so i went ahead and figured it out, here is a link to the wiring for the trans, as for the park neutral switch from the auto all u would have to do is run a wire from the connection on the passenger side where the wires are and back to the pedal and threw the clutch switch and back to the park neutral switch. oh and for reverse the wires for that are in the switch location with the park neutral switch.
