Question 89 4Runner ECT prob(not shifting into 1st)

I have a 89 4runner 4x4 SR5 with a 3.0 ECT.
Some times when i come to a stop it will not drop into 1st even if i set the selector to L when it happens it will keep doing it for a day or so then might not do it for another day or week, it so random i cant find anthing im doing to make it happen. there is no check engine light or anything. It has 225k miles on it and runs AWSOME other then this prob. Please help if you know anthing I can do. Thankyou

when was the last time you had the clutch rebuilt or replaced

my sync is bad or not installed right on mine and i have the reverse proble where if i dont hold the shift stick in on 1st it pops out with a loud clunck. also is your pedal shift more at the top or more towards the bottom by this i mean how far do you have until it catches gear in any of the gears

The problem is probably in the valve body, that part with all the springs and little balls. The other areas would be a solenoid valve or the ect itself.

the diagnostic terminal for the transmission on my 89 4runner is on the driver side wheel well next to the ignition. stick a piece of wire in it and touch it to a good ground point or attach it to a good ground and your overdrive indicator will flash the code if there is one. my transimission will not downshift to first either. i have to manually shift it. i have codes for my #2 and lockup solenoids and #2 speed sensor.
