88 yota engine problems

i have a 88 yota and the engine has a hard time cranking when it dous crank it idles really bad and will cut out when it douse stay cranked it has absolulty no power if i give it the gas it will just bogg down and when i let off the gas it jumps never had a problem with the engine until now the timing chain has about 260000 miles on it and is original im thinking that is the problem you can hear it slapping around in the timing chain cover

Hey if your wanting more specific answers you may want to provide what type of motor, and if you changed anything prior to this problem, did you just buy it? We need more background. But I would say you better change that timing chain unless you want it to chew through the cover and getting coolant in oil.

its a 1988 toyota pickup 22re bored 20 over schnider cam snorkle headers thats all thats been done to the engine im wondering if i bent a valve ill take the valve cover off and take a looksy but i dont think it did i dont hear the valves tapping i just havnt had time to put the timing chain on i ordered a heavy duty one with the steel guides and sprokets im just hoping that will solve the problem the engine only has 32k on it i took the intake off cleaned it installed new sparkplug wires roter button distributer replaced all vacume lines checked the gas lines changed fuel filter checked compression the fuel injectors are good too and it still cranks bad if i can get it to crank overall i dont think its something internal wrong in the engine i went down my list of what it could be and the only thing left i havnt done is replace the timing chain and im leaning on thats what it is it backfires really bad out the tailpipe and the snorkle so im hoping it jumped a gear on the timing chain or somethin but iv checked it before a number of times and it wwas damn near close to perfect but was still running like crap no power whatsoever spitting and sputtering but heres a lil more info so please take what you can out of that and try tohelp me come up with some answers thx

You have a 22re that was bored (so rebuilt) with 260k on the timing chain?

Sounds like you just did the top end maybe since you said you did a little refreshing with the fuel injectors and intake parts.

Definitely pin down that timing chain issue, it takes about 10 mins to pop the valve cover off and take a peek at the chain. The valves on these are loud, but you should check the clearances while you have the valve cover off
