So the slip yoke's shot in the back on my 88 Xtracab pickup and lucky for me, I think 88 is the only year toyota made the driveshafts with 10mm flanges instead of the usual 8mm so I'm having a tough time finding a replacement. I have the driveshaft off a standard cab 88 4runner (large flanges and all) but the shaft is too short for the xtracab so I was wondering if I could use the larger flanges from the 4runner driveshaft on an '86 or '87 xtracab driveshaft? Or if anybody has a lead on where to find one that'd be great too!!

I am pretty sure 8mm was only 79-83.

They started using the larger 10mm bolts in 84, AFAIK too.

What you've got though is a rear driveshaft from an 88 4WD LWB with a V6. Which would have a different bolt hole pattern than a 4 cyl., and slightly larger yet 11mm bolts, like all 86-88 V6/Turbo rear driveshafts.

And on top of that, you've got THE hardest to find rear drive shaft on the face of the earth IMO. I snatched up a couple of the last ones in the OR, WA area for my 88 long bed V6 MT. There were only maybe 4-5 left ~4 years ago, now there's none. Of those I got 2. Including the last one.

Why is it so rare?

1. 1st year of the V6. Different bolt hole pattern and larger 11mm bolts vs. 4 cyl. w/10mm bolts. And they didn't make ANY 86-87 4WD LWB with the 22RTE which may have been the same as an 88 LWB V6.
2. Last year of the 2nd gen. 112" LWB 4WD(extended cab, long bed). Only another one from 88 LWB 4WD with a V6 will bolt up and match perfectly. Because I believe the 89-92 LWBs(long bed only) used a 2-piece shaft in the rear.
3. ATs have a slightly different length. Don't know by how much. So that might be your best bet if you can't find one from a MT.



Hint: You can get away with swapping flanges on driveshafts. Because most, if not all, of the u-joints for these years are identical in size. Even 2WD, I found to be the case atleast.
