Well, good for him, he must have quite the 22RE. For the rest of us, the 22RE needs to be geared properly. There's something called a torque band, its the RPM range that the engine produces the most torque. For 22RE's, they make most of their torque above 2700rpm (?)-????. Having the proper gears takes advantage of this.

My 22RE 5spd and 4.10s is not happy with 31's. I've bought 4.56s.

If its in low range it doenst matter

But seriously, If your friend swapped in some 5.71 gears that truck would be even better!

I paid $2,100 for my 85 4runner. Sure it had it's quirks that I'm still working on, but nothing major so far except a complete brake job, and a minor fuel injector leak that was an easy fix.

I'd say wait and find something better than the one your looking at, don't be afraid to save some green to get something that you like. Try and find something that is in good stock condition that you can build up. Getting a used 4x4, you never know what the previous owner has rigged to keep the thing running. I have one complaint about my 85, and it's that the previos owner did a piss poor engine swap to a 95 22re. Hacked up the wiring and rigged some things to work. Save you a headache down the road and get a stock rig. It's more fun to build something yourself and brag about it when someone at school asks you about your truck. Trust me

When looking at it, make sure to take a look at the engine and see if any stray wires are hanging out anywhere, look at the frame to make sure it's not rusted, check the TEMP gauge when he cranks it, some people tell you to call them when your 15-20 minutes away from their place so that they can warm up the truck so it starts nice when you get there. Check for engine codes if he will let you, (If your not sure how, pm me and I'll give you a heads up)

So your total is $19.95 for that information. your welcome
