88 4runner engine swap

88 4runner engine swap
Hi, new member here, have an 88 4runner, 3vze auto 4wd. engine blown and removed, transmission shifting only via manual shifting the automatic.
Rather than rebuild the 3vze, should I just replace with another engine/transmission combination, and if so, what combo? Money is a factor here. Not a serious offroad vehicle, more of a driver. Reliability important. What about a chevy 4.3? what is EASY and INEXPENSIVE?
