I have an 88 4 runner with the 3.0 v6. A friend had a auto transmission from a 92 4runner swapped in. The transmission will not shift. I can drive in low, shift to second, then shift to drive & then nothing. It will drive but no shifting. The speedometer is not hooked up. Could this be the prob? I'm not sure if the guy that did the transmission swap put the transmission computer in from the 92. Where is the computer for the trans located on the 88 & the 92 4 runner so I can check? Thanks for the help.

 

Just guessing here, check your fluid level. Or even drain and fill. If problem continues, maybe its rebuild time? Oh, the speed cable should have no function in the transmission mechanical use.

 

Not really wanting to spend alot on the auto transmission & I can buy a 4. 3 with the harness &the computer for $150.00 so I'm thinking of swapping in a 5 speed from a 93 model. Would this transmission hold up to the 4. 3 ? I can buy the 5 speed with transfer case for $550.00. Is that a good deal?

 

Any suggestions, tips or ideas ?

The transmission control in the 88 is a 3vz. If it has a 92 auto transmission what transmission control should it have ?
