88 4Runner to 1kd-ftv d-4d swap
Yep i am back at it. Recently a routine head gasket maintenance on my 3.slo yielded unwanted findings. Cylinder walls scored badly, and pitted pistons.
I am not satisfied i have done all my research to convert this truck to a diesel, the demise of my v6 is untimely.
The 1KD-FTV engine is my mill of choice with its improved mpg and power, however there have been more 1kz-te swaps in these 1stGen Runners then the preferred 1KD-FTV. I know the 1kd has much ore electronic, but i am ok with that.
so here are some questions i still have if you have any information on the below questions please speak up. I'd be interested in getting intouch with a knowledgeable Hino mechanic since they sell this engine in medium truck duty form, Hino Dyna 300(i think).
Have you any experience with installing a 1kd-ftv into an 86-95 Toyota 4Runner/Pickup? Pitfalls?
Parts, i have heard and read that my local Toyota dealer can get parts?
What should i pay for a halfcut?
Do i need the transmission? I have an r150 and want to stay manual, i read that the bell housing should work?
Does the ecu stand alone, or does it need a transmission ecu to operate, therefore i need a 5spd halfcut?
Are there vehicles that are preferred as a halfcut over others? Hiace, Hilux, Vigo, Prado, LandCruiser? Chassis numbers?
FSM for a 1kd-ftv or 1kz-te?
Oil pan and sump swapable to clear the steering linkage?
Thanks for looking, i'll be moving my progress with this swap to my build thread once i get it going.

The 1KD-FTV has a nozzle issue due to the sub-grade diesel we get here compared to everywhere else in the world, however, Denso has issued new nozzles to remedy this problem.
I just need a few more answers before i pull the trigger.

Thanks guys, I will try to get some useful pics up.
Mark, I'm not sure what link you mean.
I am trying to source one of these from an importer in Philly.
