'88 4-runner: What's this sensor? Also: proper resistance on master brake cylinder?
Howdy folks. I recently acquired a lifted 88 toyota 4runner. It's got a 22re motor.
There is a disconnected sensor(???) near the exhaust manifold and I can't figure out what it is. <See attached picture. >
This device has a only single conductor.
My assumption is that it is some part of the emissions control system but I'm having a hard time ID'ing it using the FSM.
Any insight into this?
I've gotta get this baby through Colorado emissions testing so they tend to frown upon disconnected EC system stuff.
Also this truck has a non original master brake cylinder that doesn't connect to the original wiring. Does anyone know what the proper resistance on a functioning master cylinder would be? If this one is the same I will just get some connectors and wire it in, otherwise I'll probably just put a resistor on there to fool the brake light.
Thank you for reading my post!

that's your oxygen sensor. Yes, you need that to pass your smog. As for the master brake cylinder, sorry, I can't help you there.
And it would be easier getting help, if you put the rig info in your sig....ie, year, engine, mods....stuff like that.

That is your o2 sensor, normally its farther down the pipe but replacement manifolds put it there. You need this to get the ECU into closed loop for best operation. No the wire for it is under the drivers seat and that will not reach it in that location. I use a block off plate in that location and put the o2 in the factory location under the drivers feet.
The master clyinder does not use power. The wires are for a dashboard light to indicate low fluid level. By non-original what do you mean? There should be a single cap with a float switch in it. Its possible for it to be a '90 & up unit for larger calipers since the exhaust is not original (need better pics).

Ahh ok. I was a bit confused because I think the original o2 sensor is still hooked up farther down the exhaust. I guess I can probably just leave this one disconnected.

Master cylinder
The person I bought it from made it sounds like he put a bigger master cylinder on it for crawling purposes. The connectors don't work together and I would like for the dash brake light to be useful. Any suggestions?

Go to the auto store or radio shack and get a two wire connector. Cut those and the new ones on. Or, call Josh at Nix99 (on the internet) and see if they have an original mate to the male end. Cut the old female off and put the other on. Or, just wire nut/butt splice the wires together. Kinda of a hack job type thing, but it works.
