New owner of an 87 Runner and working through taking care of some things on it (this forum has been a godsend). I'm trying to get the tailgate weatherstripping sorted currently. I've got missing clips and only one strip, which is all sorts of warped.
First order of business was figuring out the part number. Seems the outer strip is 68170-89111, which is available. But the dealer mentioned that the inner is unavailable. The clips for these are similar, but not an exact match.
I've read here that the outer will fit the inner if you do some finagling, but figured I'd ask directly to see if anyone has successfully done it? Seems like the clip spacing is different enough to not work.
The only number I've found for the clips is 68211-89107, but I can't seem to find whether they're actually interchangeable inner to outer.
I replaced my inner weatherstrip using an outer. I don't recall the modifications needed, but I remember it being fairly quick and simple, and that it came out perfect. I do have a collection of used clips like that from things i've replaced in the past, like ones for the door, but iirc I used the ones intended for the outer tailgate. I do know they snapped in strongly.
