87 4Runner sputtering at 2400rpm and beyond

Please help! My 4Runner is spitting and sputtering at around 2400 rpm and above if I try and gass on it. If I just ease in to it it's fine. Any clues? Note: it only while doing it while driving

Did this suddenly start happening? How's your plus, wires, distributor? Could really be a lot of things we need more info to rule things out. Could be a fuel delivery problem too, so has your fuel filter ever been changed, what about your fuel pump?

New fuel pump. Going to check the fuel filter and plugs, they should be good I just put a new motor in a year ago and don't have many hours.

chevy 350 engines are not known for hesitation or sputtering at/above 2400 rpm. need more details about when the symptoms started, and what you changed or tested recently.

ok. while the filter is a maintenance item, it is also something of a "lifetime" part; they are good for well beyond the service interval listed in the FSM. i believe you should test things (free) before replacing parts. confirm there is a failure, then replace the failed piece.

ime, the filter will not cause hesitation. verify fuel pressure; you'll need to install a temporary or permanent gauge. for your 87, pressure at idle should be 28 to 32 psi. under acceleration/load, pressure should jump to 35 to 42 psi. if it is running at less than 26 psi for any time beyond momentarily after letting off the throttle, you have a fuel delivery issue, which might be the pump, the pressure regulator, both, or something else.

with the FPR return line (rubber) pinched, pressure should jump to 40 to 50 psi.

Check your TPS sensor isn't sticking and is correctly adjusted. My 85 runner used to do the same thing, I swapped the TPS, readjusted it to specs and that fixed it for me.

TPS Throttle position sensor. Found on the throttle body opposite of the throttle cable attaching point.
