So I found a good replacement for driver and passenger switch. It’s not recessed and just about covers the hole on drivers, does on passenger. But I’m struggling to use existing window power as power. Voltage drops, don’t have enough time or knowledge to chase. I would wire straight to battery, but switches have lights on them.
I want to wire so they come on when in ACC preferably, but on would be fine. I don’t know how to read wiring diagrams in manuals. Can someone direct me to where I can get 12+ from? I’ve searched but everyone says check a diagram, I just don’t know how to read wiring diagrams + - on them. Don’t want to aux button them. The switch that lights up when powered The kit that fits but no wiring info My mess
How bad is the voltage drop off? Do you get any movement from the windows while the car is running? Ik my power windows get slow af even when the car is running and battery is fresh.
Tapping into a new power could be a good idea but not super recommended for obvious reasons. Lots of places to get the key switched on 12v from though. Behind the radio and splice something in would be my first shot. Maybe even just for testing purposes I would be unplugging the radio and using that plug to see if a new good 12v even fixes the problem.
You got a multimeter to test for continuity and voltage?
I found the Carling full catalog. It's pretty cool Carling catalog
On the 1st gen 4Runners i was pondering these for center console switches(back window), but you could make a clean window switch, too, once you got the wiring sorted out.
I like how the switch housings can be single, or adapted for 2 or more switches. I did some measuring with regard to the center console switches. Awfully close.
Another plus, is they're waterproof.
fwiw, I think window motors get slow from the magnets in the motor housing getting weak. And I don't know of any way to rejuvenate magnets with any permanence.
So it’s not ideal I guess, but I ended up using an Add a Fuse line and went to kickboard panel, used the defog fuse since I don’t use that, ran a ground to a bolt nearby there from battery and eye bolted switch ground to it. Motors work great with a fresh ground! And now it turns off when key is off.
