ok i have a question... ive looked around here a bit and havent seen what im looking for..so my truck just started leaking oil... i was on the freeway and started smelling oil and a little bit of smoke coming out the back. when i got home i looked under and it was dripping pretty good from about 6 different places.. so i waited until morning and i sprayed it with a hose and didnt see anything i started the truck, and no leak, drove it around a bit and no leak... drove it on the freeway(where i noticed the smell the first time) and it started again... got home and same thing... underside of my truck coated with oil. and i noticed it was coming down from the front... could it be the front main seal? it seems like it only leaks when i drive over 3k rpms for a while... and it doesnt leak just idleing

could be the main seal check the pulley and make sure the bolt has not come loose what you have explained sounds like the crankshaft pulley and bolt.

a friends truck did the same thing we degreased the motor 3 times and could not figure where the oil was coming from but every time we revved the motor up it would start spraying oil out so fast the motor was covered with oil so we decided to check&replace the front main seal he went to loosen the bolt and it was about to fall off.

timing chain cover might have a hole on one of the sides of it, but i would think you would of heard the chain slapping timing cover.

well i got under there real quick today to check it out... crank pulley was tight. no holes in the timing cover... however one of the 12mm bolts right behind the crank pulley was about to fall out... so i tightened it and went around all the others and snugged them down as well... they werent real loose but not tight either... i havent drove it yet to see if that fixed it or not. i went outside this morning after driving on the freeway lastnight, and there was a huge puddle of oil on the ground...i had to add about a half quart of oil. i think if that didnt fix it i will do the front main seal next. any other ideas?

Its the crank balancer seal on the oil pump which is external and right behind crank balancer. That oil seal has a bad habit of leaking and will gush vs weap due to the oil pressure behind it. When you get the crank bolt loose, balancer removed, you will see the pump. Be really careful of the different length bolts and put them back in same holes. Crank balancer seal is $5, labor can be half day first time.

well i got it on the freeway tonight, i smelt oil burning a little bit but didnt see any smoke like last time. i got home and looked and didnt see any new oil leaking... hopefully it was just from that loose bolt.

If you think you have solved the problem de-grease the engine and then you will be able to spot any leaks very easy. There are alot of threads in the off-topic about doing this.
