87 4Runner - 22re Starter
Hi everyone - I could use a little help diagnosing my starter problem. Ive searched this forum and others and couldnt find any info on it. I did read about the solenoid contact replacement but i dont think thats my problem.
Two moths back i rebuilt the 22re and replaced everything except for the starter. All has worked well until the past two weeks when the weather in so cal got into the 50's at night.
When i start the truck first thing in the morning the starter seams to stick a little and i here a slight grinding noise. The temporary cure is to tap the ignition once or twice and then fire it up. This problem doesnt occur the rest of the day unless i park it for 5+hours and the temp is 50 or below.
Im going to pull the stater when the rain stops but if i were to guess it seams the starter keeps spinning but isnt engaged to the flywheel.
Is there a way to clean the starter if removed or what other ideas do you all have?
Thanks

Ill check it out "hopefully" on Sunday.
As for a a new starter from the parts store - most say their problems waiting to happen and i havent heard good things about them.
Maybe a good dose of brake cleaner once removed.
