87 22re 4-runner will not start

Having trouble getting it to start.Had weak spark until I changed coil. Now I have good spark to each plug and gas to each cylinder.Sounds like it is about to start but will not.Check eng. lite indicates MASS air flow Circuit. What can I check in that Circuit ? And is there a sure way to check the Computer/Other sensors in that circuit.?????????????PLEASE HELP! THANK YOU:

Look for the obvious first. Inspect the area around the mass air flow meter for bad connections/wires. I don't exactly remember what is in that area, but I will include a link to the FSM that has helped me in the past. What code number are you getting from the CEL?

Try this: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...sm/engine.html

I'll check to see if you post a code number.

Make sure all of your intake tubing is connected. The flap in the AFM must move when cranking or it will not start. Do a search and you will find lots of helpful insite.

Code 21 indicates you have an open or short in the main oxygen sensor circuit or an open or short in the oxygen sensor heater circuit. Check your oxygen sensor for broken wires/connections. Don't forget to check both ends of the sensor's connections; At the sensor and at the connection underneath the carpet. I don't know if that would prevent the motor from starting, but at least it is a start to eliminating the CEL.

Let us know what you find.

I believe the heater to the 02 sensor is powered by the main EFI relay. If that shorts it's going to cause problems.
Make sure your EFI fuse is still good.
Worst case, to get it to start, unplug the 02 sensor.. See if it starts.
The 02 sensor is necessary for it to run correctly, however..

The AFM must be working right also. If not connected or if malfunctioning, your fuel pump may not turn on. You can jumper around it for test purposes.

update?

Any updates on the problem/solution?

If you solved the issue, post the solution. It would be good to know how you did it for future cases.
