87 22r problem

Hey ive got an 87 22r i tore all the pollution crap out and put a weber 38 on and now the motor wont fire except with a hit of starting fluid but then it shuts right back off.Ive pulled the plugs and they are bone dry so its not getting any fuel i suppose and i can see the carb spurting fuel in to the intake so im not sure why it wont fire.Any help or comments would be appreciated. Thanks

This may sound simple, and probaly already tried, are you sure your getting fuel to the carb from fuel line? As long as there is fuel in fuel bowl it will squirt, then when thats gone. You get the idea. Just trying to help.

Exactly what 'pollution crap' did you remove? On an 87 22r, none of it effects horsepower.

And you did plug all the vacuum lines and such- egr passages blocked, etc?

Was it a "EFI" swap?

A lot of it afect HP.... The hot exhaust gases that heat up the intake air. The heating element under the intake manifold heats up the air. The Egr feeds dirty air back into your engine....lowering combution temp. Air pump lowers combustion temp. Cat restrict exhaust flow. High termostat temp keeps engine hot to burn unsept gases....heat KILLS HP!!! Pull the fuel line off the carb. Crank the engine. Gas? If no then pump or filter is bad (or theres' a hole in your tank) If yes then the float maybe stuck. See if you can kepp the engine running with starting fluid for a minute, if you can then it's not a timing problem. Drop that termostat to a 160 and keep your engine cool....
