I have replaced the water pump all the hoses and the radiator cap and thermostat, When I drive it around town or on flat highways its fine but when I head up to where my folks live about 20 minutes up in the hills it gets way hot so i always have to stop and let it cool down, what could this be??????

 

A bubble in the system.... point the nose uphill with the cap off and the engine running to let the system 'burp'. Then top off with your coolant mix.

 

was it overheating before or after you installed the new water pump etc etc. Kinda makes a difference.

 

no but I do believe there probably is a bubble in the system, I bought It off my friend and the day before I got it he put one in then the next day I got it I blew a hose, replaced all of them and thermostat. Do i wait to put the cap on once it starts bubbling over the top?

 

how much of an incline is needed, maybe just high lift the front up a little or what

 

Just so the radiator cap opening is at the highest point relative to the rest of the engine and the heater core you'll be good.

 

make sure your heater is on when you "burp" it. Placing the front on ramps helps. Squeezing the upper and lower rad hoses help as well. Since it wasn't overheating before you put the new water pump on then I would say it's just a bubble. Oh and while I think about it, people don't just on a whim change a water pump. Why was it changed?

 

it was changed cause it started spitting water everywhere, it was old

 

before I do it, should I put the cap on when it starts bubbling over the top?

 

what was the part # of the thermostat, cause toyota has 2 thermostats for the 22r and 22re

no. it shouldn't bubble over too bad. if it does then you got other issues.

 

well thats true, i will check and post it tomorrow I wanna know if the guy at auto zone even got me the right one

 

toyota has a "dual temp" thermostat, go to toyota and look up the part #'s. i dont know the exact number but there both the same part # except the dual temp part # ends in a 0 instead of an 8

 

Im guessing its the radiator, it looks pretty old, once I replace that and make sure to refill it with no bubbles in the system, if it still happens then I guess I will be on here for some advice
