86-95 Toyota truck frame.

Are the 86-95 Toyota truck and 4Runner frames made out of steel? I read somewhere that they we're made out of aluminum. Is this true?

Also the dimensions are different between the 88 and older and the 89 and newer. Looking at them they look the same. My local salvage yard was able to look that up for me.

So since the frames on the 86-95 Toyota trucks and 4runners are made out of steel is it safe to weld on them?

I am not a welder but there are several threads where people weld on them all the time for replacing rusted sections to adding in a solid axle.

All 2nd gen trucks & 4runners are body on steel frame. Regarding your question, I would see no reason why you couldnt weld something. What are you trying to do?

So 3rd Gen (86-95) Toyota trucks and 4runners don't have a steel frame? I will be buying one and doing a solid axle swap or maybe one ton axle swap and possibly a engine swap.

They all have steel frames , that's why searching for rust is such a big issue when buying a used Yota...

Weld away on the frame , try to get the metal as bare as possible though ... some of my welding adventures / repairs on my truck...

I seen you created another thread on steel frames. I deleted your newest one. Please create only one thread for the same subject.

Fun fact through, many land rover defenders came with an aluminium frame.

Do the 78-83 and 84-88 Toyota trucks have a steel frame? If so which frame is the strongest of all these trucks?

Jesus man, ALL TOYOTA PICKUP FRAMES ARE STEEL! Pick a body style you like, and buy one. Doing 1 ton axles and an engine swap will be just about the same amount of work on any of the frames.
