you could try measuring a resistor or something, but when digital multimeters are $5 at harbor freight, it's not worth the hassle.

Okay I just bought the digital multi-meter you showed me

What setting join the dots on and which hole do I put the positive and negative into?

don't worry about the positive and the negative, when it's a dead short(zero resistance), it'll be reading zero, or very close to it.

turn the dial indicator to one of the ohms choices, which is in the green area, and touch the leads together a few times, so you'll get used to what zero resistance(window switch on) and infinite resistance looks like.

one lead on 11 or 12, and the other lead on a ground(bare metal), then turn the window switch, lets see if something changes on the meter reading... remember all power off, you are measuring with the connector unplugged, on the connector itself, not the relay box.

OK hey whoever is still watching this thread!

Im going to start a slow build thread, because well im planning on getting some things done and would like to make an "official" build thread.

If you guys would like to follow me ill post what thread it is when I make it.

Just a quick update, going to take the top off today and take the roll bar out so I can get the back side panels that im building fitted. Get the current wheels painted flat black. Get the rust converted, slight engine work and put the AC belt in and see if the AC works! Try more things with the tail gate to try to get it working with the key again

Maybe some junkyard steelys depending on the price

OSV: I still need to do the resistance test for the short, havnt had a second person to turn the key for me haha!

Long Live the First Gen Yoda's!

17 years old, new to yotatech and I have a 1989 4runner that sags and has very little travel on the suspension in the back. I'm thinking of replacing the leaf springs but am also planning on getting a suspension lift soon. Should I do both or will the lift will take care of the sag by itself?

It depends if the lift kit comes witb new leaf springs or not

I had a saggy butt as well, if you read this whole thread you would have seen that I just did the ZUK mod (13"springs at 125 test) it took care of the sag and has improved my ride alot! As well as they finally quieted down so I dont hear them anymore.

Im planning some chevy 63" so thats the "new" leafs im going to use later.

If your lift is in the future but dont want the sag? Do the ZUK mod, its cheap and really easy to do and depending on what coil springs you get they can be had for under 50 bucks. dont spend money on new stock springs if your upgrading in the near future.

Why dont you post up some pics of this runner huh??

Nice to see you got the runner. You do not want to do resistance checks with power on. I have several common fixes for these first gen runners on my 88 build thread listed below. They are listed on the first page and what post numbers to go by. The page numbers keep changing as I add more info to it so you will need to go by the post number. These trucks are easy to learn and understand, it just takes a little time. You will get the hang of it with a little patience.
