That price is installed with new gear oil. what do you think? is there a cheaper way to go about this? most shops want me to take the truck to them so they can charge me installation charges.

No doubt, that would be the easiest and cheapest way. Its not even hard to get the 3rds swapped

If you want someone to do the gears, I would pull the diffs and give them to the shop. Also, ask them how much if you provide the gears AND the master install kits. Might save you some money.

that is for front and rear installed. my biggest problem is finding them. junk yards here in miami never have them in 4x4. if they do its been canabalized already and ive only found 2 here. so i have to look else where. i would like to find the 3rds complete so i just have to swap them in. but no luck yet so i found this guy up in northen fla that has them but he wants 850 with my core's.

150 for diffs man that would be a good price. most of the ones i find on craigslist are 4.10's for 150. this is close enough so i can pick them up if i had to pay shipping im sure it would drive the cost up. i guess its just a waiting game. ill keep looking.

its not that hard to replace them your self.

Where do I sign up?
I'll sell you the 4.56's front under my truck for $300.

Hahah.

That's a brutal price. Might as well re-gear to 5.29's and get some new tires. Might be cheaper.

I agree, I found some on craigslist. Just went over them as best I could before I bought em, have had zero problems with them.

Never thought I would try something like a gear swap. There were threads on here gave me the confidence to do it myself. Had no problems.

Got my set for $220. Had a local guy offer for me to pull my diffs, take them to him, and he would install the gears for $500. Was about the same price as most factory units from J yards around here. I was going to do this option until I ran across the craigslist find.

If you already have 33's, are you planning to go with bigger tires eventually? 4.56's and 33's, your speedo will still be off a little. most folks get 4.88's to run 33's to 35's (manual tranny folks) And it seems the 4.88's are a little easier to find on here.

I know this isn't really an option for you, but I found this right near my area that I would snap up if I needed to regear........

Just typed in toyota 4.56 or toyota 4.88 and got this...

http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/pts/1582650101.html

Also, I found alot of folks don't know the gear ratio, so look under "toyota parting" and call them and try to find the G252 or G254 9(4.56's) or even the G144 (4.88's) and go swoop em up.

I helped Truckfiend find his 4.88's and the guy had no clue what the ratio was and I had to walk him through it on the phone, he got the set for $350.
