Have you done the swap yet or are you still fighting with parts? I thought you posted a while back about getting an 82 Supra MAF. That thing is pure plug and play.

I will say though that it's a pain to try and find a single year part that is a direct fit to our trucks.

 

I thought the throttle body would compliment the Supra AFM (a MAF measures the mass of air using a heated wire).

I did end up finding an '82, I used cheap shipping, so its taking a while to get here, though it should be here any day now. I have midterms at the moment, so it will take me a while before I go buy the filter and ducting. Apparently the Dodge Dakota V8 intake tubing is 3" wide and make the right bend to put the AFM in the stock batter location. I've though I might route the intake over top of the positive terminal of the battery to sit farther back by the plenum for that it is less exposed to water and I have room for a second starter battery- I have a habit of draining my battery far away from cell reception on roads that see tens of cars per day.

The Throttle Position Sensor should look the same to the one on your stock TPS. That link doesn't say which (3 or 4 wire TPS) works with the 22RE found in 4x4s (I beleive they were slightly different compared to the Celicas). I'd look at the electrical connector on your stock TPS and see if it plugs into the new Supra TPS.


Make sure to document the mod if this works out, this will be really neat if it does work, and it would help me and other people if you took photos.

 

why hasn't anyone modded / made a progressive (two butterfly) throttle body?

 

ok sorry guys i didn't get a chance to put it all together tonight, because i got a little lost(40 blocks in the other direction) trying to find this guys house. but i do have them both i am hoping that my TPS on my truck will fit on the new TB. keep your fingers crossed. ill make a thread on it TM with pics

 

the supra TB is alot bigger bore then the upper plenum.and i am going to have to fab up some linkage for it. to get the TB on there you might want to get a TB spacer cuz the butterfly valve opens back a little far. and the spacer is going to have to be bored to the supra 60mm size also. its still in progress so bear with me this is what i have so far ill post pics when i fab up all of it

 

Could you use a TB spacer with a tapered bore that accommodates the both the 60mm TB and the plenum openings.

 

yeah that would work but i think it kind of defeats the purpose for having the bigger TB. i wondering if i could take the linkage and stuff of the stock TB and put on the Sup TB. the vacuum hose are the same it takes a little trouble shooting to get them right but its pretty easy.

 

Short of chopping boring out the plenum, not sure what else there is to do. Too tired to think of something intelligent, but keep us (me) updated on how this goes. More pictures the better.

I got a later model throttle body now. Its the slide type linkage. Measureing with a tape and comparing the stock linkage looks like I should be able to swap it over to the 60mm TB. I'm having an issue pulling the linkage off. Can't get a gear puller on it. Emailed Maxbore.com to see how he does it. May just send it to him to swap.
