$600 Toyota 4runner for my son.

Hi

I'm new and looking for tips/experience maintaining and using a 1994 4runner. I bought this one for my 18yo son a few weeks ago for $600. It works well and was always maintained and has 223K on it. He absolutely loves it and I am pointing him to this forum for tips as HE is going to start fixing the thing when it goes wrong.

v6, 3.0 VZE, auto, leather, power everything. The ac works too. That's the good, the bad is that it has an oil leak, oil pan I think, but it may be cam seals as well. Front seat is ripped, and the sunroof leaks. We are going to try cleaning the drains and maybe Earl will test it for us.

Thats a steal! I got mine for $600 too but I had to put about $4500 into it just to pass inspection; thanks to living with road salt. I'm sure you son is going to have a blast with it, but make sure he doesn't do any useless mods to it (AKA spend money on the needed things first) Word of advice, stick to OEM Toyota parts.

Thanks for the welcome! We are already planning christmas presents, like rear bumper chrome, and a stereo system, GPS, off road driving lessons?

I really fell into this deal, I had a 1996 saturn lined up to buy him for about $1600. I was talking to a friend and telling him about it, and some dude in front of me turned around and said "have I got a deal for you!" He did! So instead of a beige saturn sl1 auto, with an AM radio, he got the 4runner. I'm happy because I get to drive it now and again (and fill it up to help him out), but every time I get in it I feel like taking my shirt off, drinking beer, and aiming for squirrels on the road.

The wood isn't stock? Really? I had no idea, the last toyota I owned was a 1972 celica and it had a wood grained dash.

He has put a coat of wax on it since the pics were taken, so it is faded less. But the clear coat is definitely gone. He is very very happy.

That is an awesome deal, congrats, I found mine at a Tim Horton's at 4:30am by fluke too. As far as the paint goes, it's only on the truck so you can rub it off...
