Is 55mm socket same as 54mm?

Stupid question I know, but I went to Schmucks and they had a 55mm socket for "Toyota Landcruiser and Pickup". It was only $16. Reading about the axle hub nut on here everyone is using a 54mm socket. Are there different sizes for Add and manual hubs? I don't want to get everything torn apart and it not work.

A 55mm will work fine. One millimeter difference is a lot on a 10mm socket, but not so much on a 55mm socket.

Seriously though I think you will be fine, many people use a 36mm on the newer trucks which require a 35mm and I have never seen one strip.

When you take my advice though and it does strip, post pics.

What you are really asking is will the 55mm work in place of the 54mm. I just bought a 55mm because the store didn't have a 2 1/8? or a 54mm. You have to push the torque wrench onto the nut and hold it there. There is a little play but it will just fine for torquing wheel bearings.

We have 54mm sockets for $14.

Why buy the wrong thing and make it work when you can get the right thing to start with?

Well in my case I had the correct socket but it disappeared. With the truck torn apart and a need to get it back together I went to the local parts store. After grumbling to myself about tools disappearing and stores not carrying the one size you need, I settled on the +1mm socket and proceeded to put my truck back together torquing the wheel bearings to spec accordingly. Now if you have time, absolutely order the right socket.

Channelocks! I always thought we did the hammer and chisel/screwdriver method.
I know the PO of my truck did.
I had to buy all new parts.

I did that the screwdriver/hammer method on the first round.. 6hrs, not one place in town had any kind of socket big enough.. (at the time i had NO IDEA what size socket was needed).. this was years ago

Ended up finally finding a 2 - 3/16" Craftsmen ... the nuts have a few dents n nicks now but thread on fine. The socket is a bit lose but it works just fine for the axle nuts.

Tore apart a spare hub other day and the PO had used hammer and flat head as well but they really did a number on these nuts, ugh. lol

It will work, channel locks will work, pipe wrench , crescent wrench, or a hammer and chisel if all else fails
