529 rear diff good deal?
I found a rear diff with 529's and a lockright locker for sale. The guy says the gears are new and the locker has low miles and that the gears were professionaly done is $500 a good deal? I'm poor and after my used bracket lift and used front 529 diff and the new bfg km2's I'm getting I will be broke! That's why I am buying used.

Idk on the brand of gears. He was asking 600 for it but I offered him 500 and he said ok. I'm supposed to meet him friday so if its not a good deal I might pass.

your not stealing it and your not paying retail
lockright new 300ish
new gears 150ish
pro install 100-150ish
new setup kit with solid spacer 125ish
775 ish for lockright set up in your exsiting case NEW
OR you can do what I did and buy new gears have then installed using your old bearings if still good and weld your spiders total cost for that $300ish I payed way less
OR spool it now your spending 450ish
OR order a TG fully assembled BRAND NEW spooled 5.29 for 600+ship
IMO a lockright in the rear is stupid go welded or spool out back go read about a lockright and the way it operates the unlocking, it may change your mind. I would put a lockright up front if I had to use one otherwise full detriot if you want an auto locker but I woudl never auto lock my rear

my most killer deal on gears was a 5.29 spool with brand new gears, spool , & bearings
for
4.10 garage welded with old bearings, 2 qts. of gear oil, and $50
LMAO
I am running that bad boy out back now

As much as 300 sounds tempting its my dd and I don't want to run a spool. There a lot harder on tires and if I use my old bearings who knows how long they will last with 183k on them. I wish I could find one for like 3 or 400.I only paid 50 for my ifs diff with 529's.But this is the only one for sale within 5 hour drive.

I'll agree with Plumrbob regarding the price list he lined out. If you're confident of the parts and set up quality, it's a good deal but not a smokin' deal.
I'll agree with you though in regards to a welded or spooled diff. Great for the trail, nice and strong and simple, but not for the street. I've been very happy with my lockright despite how much others have poo pooed it. Good luck.

Go to Zuk's site : http://gearinstalls.com/ and print out some pictures of acceptable gear patterns and unacceptable gear patterns...
take some yellow paint and a paint brush, coat a small section of the ring gear and rotate it by hand. Compare the pattern you get with the pics you took with you.
if the pattern looks good, buy it, as mentioned it is an OK deal, not awesome...
I agree with you, I would not want to drive with a spool or welded rear in a DD..

a lockright will eat you tires as much as a welded or spool research on how they work
if you want auto lock spend some money and get a full detroit
if your bearings are good why not re-use them????
if your buying used how do you know his bearings are new??? and how many miles are on his bearings???
your installing used bearings one way or another LOL,
how do you know his lockright isnt worn out???
just my 2 cents
used parts are typicaly worth less than half retail 1 mile or 50,000 miles

well a lockright that is working correctly (brand new) will give you a little more life in your tires I have never had one that worked right it was always locked it never opened up.
I would also like to mention the day your lockright breaks out on the trail will be a bad day make sure you run with a spare 3rd and 2 quarts of gear oil.

i just sold and installed a used lockright im my buddys 94 with 33's. locker looked ok and when installed it was to spec. anyhow it unlocks every time he lets off the throttle(while turning). imo a lunch box locker for the money is a good choice for a dd/ mild wheeler. i prefer spools myself
