5 - 6 lug swap? (2WD PU)

I want to regear my 91 2wd pickup by swapping in a differential assembly from a 4wd truck. The problem is the front hubs on the 2wd have 5 lugs and the new diff will have 6. I want to have the same number of lugs all round so I don't need to keep 2 different rims for spares

Is there some way of swapping the front rotors or rear axle so all 4 tires will be the same? Don't care if I get 5 or 6 lugs as long as they're the same all round.

why not just get a new 3rd member from a 2wd with the gear you want. then you wont have to change the lug pattern.

I would have to agree with robert on this one. But if its a 8" thrid in the 2wd trucks then just take the 4wd 3rd and drop it in. Im not sure if you can do this but im pretty sure you can

No go. The problem IS NOT the lugs, 5 vs 6.

The problems are:

1. The axleshafts ARE NOT the same, 27 spline(2WD) vs 30 spline(4WD). NOT SWAPPABLE between the two differentials.

2.The housings are different, the 2WD houses a 7.5" differential and the 4WD houses an 8" differential. NOT SWAPPABLE between the two housings.

3.You can't swap in 6 lugs all around on a 2WD pickup. PERIOD, end of story. Sorry. The ENTIRE 4WD front end is completely incompatible with a 2WD front end. EVERYTHING is different, so you'd need to change ALL of it over to 4WD components. Brakes, suspension, steering. MAJOR fabrication project. BUT....If you wanted 6 lugs for the rear that's probably doable by adapting the 4WD rear axle to mount under your 2WD pickup. Don't know exactly how myself, but I'm sure that it's been done.

4WD axles are spring over, 2wd are spring under. You would need welding fab to make the axle assy work anyways. Not worth the swap. Just get a new set of gears.

Thanks for the reply guys

I really didn't think it was that involved.
I kind of thought I could get a rear diff from a 4x4 with the leaf springs attached and bolt it into the 2wd. Didn't think there would be much of a problem bolting a 4wd leaf spring into a 2wd frame. Might have to swap the driveshaft end so I could bolt it to the new carrier....

The only thing is I would have 5 lug in the front and 6 lug in the rear.
Was kind of hoping rotors from a 2wd 4runner would fit in the front or something giving me 6 lug all round.

Anyway, you're probably right. I'll start looking for gears

Thanks
