4WD Not Working
Just got my 92 4runner a couple weeks ago and tried driving it up a snowy hill and got stuck. It was in 4hi then i tried it in 4 low but the front tires werent spinning at all. The only one that seemed to be doing any work was the back right tire. Any ideas on what it could be?

im going to assume that you have the ADD system on your 4runner a couple of things could be wrong your vaccum lines arent connected right, your diff has a problem which is why your front tires did not engage, you could have bad wiring, the ADD actuators could be bad. when you put it in 4hi do you hear a click under the dash or no if not you have a soliend that needs to be replaced do you get the 4wheel drive light on the dash when you engage it? are the CVs in good shape be sure to check your hubs i learned the hard way that buying a used truck people do not take care of things very well the hub on my passenger side was stripped out so my CV just spun and did nothing but make alot of noise check what i mentioned and go here to see what else you can do http://www.off-road.com/trucks4x4/ar....jsp?id=399612 i hope that helps

ok so now you can rule out the soliend under the dash now you need to check if your front drive shaft turns when you put it in 4wheel drive it should be loose and free to spin when in 2wd the put it in 4wd and see if its locked up if not its your transfercase. if it does lock up you need to check to see if your front cvs lockup like keep it in 4wd and jack up the front end(with the truck off and not in gear) to see if they are locked if not it could be the aucator on the diff not engaging and that could be because of missd matched vaccum lines or worn out vaccum lines. check your cvs to see if your hubs are still good and to see if the boots are torn.
this could be a very simple problem or it could be a very complex one but take your time

Check your vacuum to the front actuator on the axle. Also there should be a switch there that triggers your light on the dash. Mine was disconnected and I reconnected and everything worked.....as far as the light goes anyway,

I had the same problem a few weeks back.
Check, and replace the Vacuum lines going from the Actuator. I replaces my lines, Cost a total of $11. Before they melted.
Make sure to route them correctly, away from any heat source. or else you'll be replacing them again.
Here's a link to my thread. Hope it helps!
