4wd massive rattle

Hey guys got our first snowfall of the year and the truck rattles like crazy when i engaged it into 4wd. Here are the key points:

-89 toyota pickup 22 re
-Sas swapped, manual hubs

My guess is something in the hubs is messed up, but i cant tell w/o taking it apart. The rattle gets worse is i accelerate and isnt noticeable if i dont give it gas. The truck runs flawlessly if the hubs are locked but i dont engage to 4wd. So maybe its a deifferntial thing? Thanks for any input!

if the hubs are locked and transfer is in 2wd the front driveshaft and diff will still spin. I would lean towards transfer case. I could be thinking wrong though.

If it is in fact the u-joints does the problem come from the angle of the diff/drive shaft itself?

Comes from a U-joint that hasn't had any grease in a really long time.

its funny that u say that stuwy, case the previous owner of my 88 pickup never believed in greasing the u joints, and it had a wicked vibration above 60 mph, after i greased them it took only 2 days and all the vibration was gone
