ok i got sick and tired not seeing the 4wd light. the 4wd works and i hear a click somewhere when i shift into 4wd. today i checked to see if the bulb is blown in the cluster and it was fine. im stumped and have no idea what to do next

 

I belive there is a plug of some sort that goes into your tcase and recognizes that your 4x4. Im sure someone will chime in that knows more

As long as you are sure you are in 4WD, it sounds like a sensor is bad, or a connector has come undown.

 

I think i am having the same problem, only mine will flickeron sometimes depending on whether i am accelerating/decelerating, but i know the 4wd is engaging. i checked out the wiring diagram on how the system works and i am pretty sure i have narrowed it down to the wire coming off the front diff. the wire goes up the driver side of the engine bay and disappears under the intake plenum i think (probably into a wire loom to the dash). anyone know where it ends up and how to get to it?

 

Not sure about the '93, but on mine the 4WD light is directly activated by a switch on the ADD (Auto Disconnecting Differential) actuator. This should be located on the passenger side of your front diff. It has a large round vacuum actuator. It has an electrical connector on it, check that and wiring to it. Get a copy of the FSM for your year. They are available here http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/index.html. Trace the wiring, check for any breaks. THe FSM explains how to test the ADD. Good luck!

As far as I know, there are two switches. One on the transfer case and one at the ADD actuator when the sleeve is in place.

I could be wrong and would have to double-check my FSM to make sure.

Update: according to the article I posted, that is the case. The sleeve may not be sliding into place due to a split in one of your vacuum lines from the VSVs on the passenger side fender. If that's the case, and it's a common problem, then sleeve won't move and you won't get the second switch to close.
