The tailgate window on my 95 4Runner is getting slower and slower. I usually use a "manual assist", that is; grab the window and help it up or down, but I'm worried that it may stop working altogether.
My first impression is that the motor is plain worn out. After scanning search results; I understand the driver's side window motor is the same the the rear tailgate window motor. Can anyone confirm for me that is true? I don't mind buying a new motor if it will help, getting the right one would be nice.
Even though I've searched all the rear window posts, anybody have any insight or advice on this issue?

Sorry, I can't confirm that the motors are the same, but I can tell you that is usually the symptom of the motor wearing out.......provided you aren't hearing any racket...which can indicate the regulator or tracks are fubar'd somehow.

Try spraying some silicone spray on the upper window seals. Those tend to get neglected.

I also had a VERY slow window, I thought the motor was pooched. BUT before you do anything else, you should remove the 2 cover panels, and get a good spray lube, and spray everything down. especially where the scissor arms mount to the glass. on my truck there was quite a bit of corrosion on there, so I cleaned it all up, and lubed everything, and now my rear window is at least twice as fast as it used to be. also works at -30 celsius now!

to get to the guts of the rear window you just need to remove the carpeted trim piece (just pull on it, it pops off, there are about 10 anchors. then use a philips screwdriver, there are about 6 screws holding the metal cover plate on. then after the cover plate there will be plastic covering it, carefully remove it, because you want to seal it all back up again. and then spray the crap out of all moving parts! dont use WD-40, you want to use a lubricant

I recently cleaned off all the old, probably original, factory grease and re greased it with fresh grease. I also cleaned all the electric connectors I could get to. Might have to look at it again.

Silicone lube works best if I remember correct for the rubber runners.
