Any CEL?
Make sure the AFM is working correctly. Make sure the throttle plate is opening some and that the IAC valve is not clogged.

i have a 1990 4runner that did the same thing. i looked at the intake and one of the hose clamps was loose letting in to much air so adjusted and tightened it and it fixed the problem. so you might want to check if its as simple as my problem was.

3.0 v6...EFI right? Not sure..it could be many things...Try an injector cleaner... Check your hoses like lostSauce said... chances are its something simple..but its definitely fuel related...

If its Carbeurated...haha..check your carb ports for clogs etc... do they even make carbs for the v6s? i donno...

Holding your throttle open: opens air valve and allows more gas to the injectors. Vacuum leaks could cause you to need to pin it..as well as clogged injectors or carb ports... maybe a bad fuel pump or filter bro... those are common probs to that too... as in not getting enough fuel pressure unless u really step on it..

No cracks in the tubing from the engine to the air filter?

3.0's are EFI. 3VZ-E.......E = electronic

Troubleshooting guide........

Could be a number of things. Make sure everything's plugged in, too. I've had that happen to me more than once.
