4runner on the rocks, stock rig advice

Ok I'm taking the 89 out wheeling tomorrow and since this will be the first stock rig that I've wheeled and the first 4runner that I've wheeled I have some questions.

1) How much do these things shift around with the extra weight on top?

2) Is the factory fuel tank armor durable?

3) Since it has a shorter wheel base than my truck is that going to be a big consideration while picking a line?

I finally locked down what the final product is going to be with this one but I want to do it in stages and wheel it in between upgrades. As in I'm going to wheel it tomorrow, then again when I do the lift (BJ's and ZUK's), some more after the tires (SAM's Club sells BFG KM2's for 155$ each in 33/10.50/15), again when I do the gears (4.88's), some more after the rear locker (Aussie), again after the front locker (Aussie again) and finally after I do the dual t-cases. This way I can figure out what works well for me with real world wheeling trips. With the 86 pickup I just built what I wanted and then went wheeling, I didn't really gain any knowledge during the build with regards to off road.

Thanks for the help.

Fuel tank armor.
Depends on what you mean by durable. I have pounded mine and it shows it. The tank however is still intact. Dented and reshaped, but intact. No leaks or ruptures. Pic in the first post on this page.

For your other questions, I have no basis of comparison. I've only wheeled my runner with the top on. Being not lifted very high, I don't think you will notice much of a difference. Probably more of an issue the higher you lift. (obviously)
