I would say pickup but thats what I need. The only thing the Runner has on the pickup is the topper which you can get for your pickup. And the pickup toppers lock as well. And if a guy wants whatevers in the back of either he will get it regardless. Unless you want to haul around people I would stick with the pickup. And the 3vze isnt that bad of a motor. Just needs to be taken care of. You can't ignore them like you can a 22R but if you just keep it maintained it will last.

I dunno, I have a xtra cap pickup and I have never wished that I went with a 4 runner over the pickup. I don't need to worry about top storage, as I don't have one. I don't have to worry about taking out as much glass when going through tight trails with trees. Easier to bob a truck bed, then the back of a 4 runner and top. And I don't have haul people around, as I can only fit 1 passenger

At times I have wished that I had the wheel base of a 4runner, though the longer wheel base does help at times.

My friend gets his TRX400 sport quad in the back of his with the back seat down. Doesn't even need tiedowns because the tailgate even closes and makes a tight fit.

I have an 89 4runner and a 90 extracab pickup and its a tough call. The only reason I would keep the truck instead is for the bikes but if you already have a truck then nothin beats a first gen 4runner.

Both. Which is why I have one of each. The 4Runner gets the most use, but there are times when the truck is needed. And it gets better mileage.

you could label one as a rec or secondary vehicle and the insurance is nothing like $20 a month

not in canada you can't

they wanted over $6k to insure both my truck and runner. so i sold the runner. i need the truck to haul the dirt bikes and i couldn't see myself hitching up a trailer every time i wanted to go riding, nor taking off the top and muddying up the inside of my runner.

If you want my opinion after owning 2 tacomas, 3 1st gen 4Runners, and 2 toy pickups. Get a 1st gen 4runner for the most versatility. If you take the top off you can fit a dirtbike in the back, and also use it just the same as a pickup bed (especially if you remove the roll bar which I wouldn't do, but if you need the space...). It is the exact same thing as a pickup body wise from the cab forward but you have more legroom, passenger room, stereo room, stuff room, and just a cooler looking vehicle in general with the topper or without. Just my opinion.

I've had one 4R and many trucks. Something about my life requires a truck Think practical and keep what you need.
