4:10 V.S. 4:88 pinion diameter

i have a 91 toyota 33 inch tires daily driver weekend wheeler I recently blew my rear end pinion gear out I assume it was the 14 year old stock rear end I geared it down to 4:88 with tru tracs front and rear. I realize the pinion is a little smaller than the 4:10s do I need to worry about the new ratio (mainly the pinion) being very weak cause to begin with its a 8 inch rear and 7.5 ifs smaller than most trucks. I had a local shop put my rear third member together new bearing and everything and i installed it in the truck I dont know what brand of ring and pinion they sold me. It better have been yukon the charged me 1098.00 dollars to just put the stupid third member together (no labor to take in or out of axle housing) I just did a ring and pinion up front and small master kit. I dont wheel it that hard i usually let off as soon as it starts to hop I just wondering if im to paranoid or just wheel the piss out of it

Did you break them in correctly? If you did then sounds like you got a ĊĊĊĊty install...I'd contact them and try to get them to replace them. Or if that doesn't work, ship your 3rd off to ZUK and he'll make it indestructible plus he'll put in good gears.

i think u understanding me wrong i havent blown my new gears out yet I havent had any problem whith the 4:88s the rearend i blew out was the original 4:10s (14 years old) Im just paranoid about the smaller pinion with the 4:88 and as to wether or not they are weaker (due to size) or not yeah im just a paranoia freak j/k

if they are set up correctly you should never break with 33's
i wheel the crap out of my Yukon 5.29's with 36" tsl's with no problems, i set them up myself also, i kept the pattern deep and run the minimum amount of backlash, with lots of carrier bearing preload, thats the key to keep toy R&P's alive
